About TEI Rock Drills

TEI Rock Drills Inc. manufactures drilling attachments and limited access drill rigs for the construction, mining, fencing and geothermal industries.  Founded in 1980 by William and Judith Patterson, TEI has grown from humble beginnings to be the world’s leading manufacturer of drilling attachments.  Our drilling equipment is produced in our Montrose, Colorado facility and shipped to every continent in the world.

TEI is a corporation privately held by the Patterson family.  Bill & Judy Patterson started the company and were soon followed by their eldest son John.  Bill, Judy and John got the company through the difficult first years and the beginnings of manufacturing.  Judy, the matriarch of the family, came to TEI full time in 1986; to this day Judy maintains our financial well being, acting as our CFO.  In 1988 Sue Patterson joined TEI to help with the continued success of the company and the company relocation to Montrose.  Glenn Patterson brought his machining and hydraulic expertise to TEI in 1989.  With Glenn’s arrival TEI began using all CNC computerized machining centers for our parts production, which gave us a great boost in the quality of our manufacturing.  Joe was the final Patterson to join the team in 1995 as head of marketing and sales.  For 11 years TEI continued with the entire family working daily at the plant, then in 2006 John moved to North Carolina to pursue his own interests while Sue (now Sue Frank) took over as President and CEO of TEI Rock Drills.

In 1980 TEI was located in Denver, Colorado providing single-boom underground jumbos as well as consulting services for the mining sector, eight years later TEI moved to Montrose, Colorado with the help of the Montrose Economic Development Council where we began production of drilling attachments for the construction industry.  Since then TEI has concentrated on the continued development of drilling attachments as well as limited access and man-portable drills designed for foundation repair.  In 2002 TEI became partners with Beretta Alfredo of Milan, Italy and EuroDrill of Drolshagen, Germany.  Beretta manufactures small and medium sized hydraulic track drills used for construction; with this partnership we are able to offer quality drill rigs in the USA while the Beretta distributors in Europe market TEI attachments.  EuroDrill drifters supplement those manufactured by TEI, when combined the two companies offer the most complete line of drifters and rotary heads available in the world.  We believe that all of our customers, and TEI, have benefited greatly from the alliances created over the years.

The continued growth of the construction industry has also helped TEI grow. We now build over 100 drills per year.  On our seven acres of land we have a 2,600 sq/ft office building next to our 30,000 sq/ft manufacturing facility.  Our workshop includes a CNC machining center, state of the art welding/fabrication shop, large assembly area and parts inventory.  In 2006 we built a new 6,600 sq/ft warehouse to store large parts as well as completed attachments, Beretta rigs, EuroDrill drifters and our rental fleet.
