TE550 Hydraulic Drifter
The TE550 is TEI Rock Drill's newest drifter. Utilizing a patented hammer design the TE550 delivers an incredible impact power and plenty of torque. This patent allows for an internal damping of the piston when the shank adapter is not engaged. So rather than having an external damper that dampens the shank adapter with the full power of the piston, the TE550 actually has an internal oil bypass that allows hydraulic oil to pass between the forward and reverse stroke of the piston when the shank, or striker, is not engaged.
What all of this means is that if the drill is not pushed into the hole the piston in the TE550 has a weakened oscillation. And therefore does not transfer energy into the front housing of the drifter, and thus eliminating many costly repairs from poor operation of the drill. Although the TE550 can't eliminate all the problems of hydraulic drifter drilling it definitely helps by having this power-on/power-off mode of the percussion unit.
